Since 2014, the Academic Women鈥檚 Choir Linnea has marked International Women鈥檚 Day on March 8 with the charity concert A collection of women鈥檚 rights struggles, in support of the girls鈥� and women鈥檚 shelters in 糖心直播. The purpose is to highlight the day, draw attention to problem areas, and provide financial contributions to the shelters鈥� work. Instead of an entrance fee, visitors are encouraged to make a donation.
From project to tradition
Women鈥檚 rights struggles.
In autumn 2014, a choir member suggested during a rehearsal that the choir should highlight International Women鈥檚 Day. The idea was met with strong interest, and the following spring the first edition of A collection of women鈥檚 rights struggles was held. The concert was successful, and it quickly became clear that it would return. The tradition became so established that even during the pandemic the choir chose to hold the concert digitally.
Themes and focus
Each year features a new theme, but the focus is always on female composers, arrangers, and lyricists. The song texts preferably address issues related to women鈥檚 experiences and rights. Other women鈥檚 choirs are often invited to strengthen the female context and spread the concept.
Powerful stories
For each concert, the choir invites speakers, often connected to Link枚ping University. A representative from the girls鈥� and women鈥檚 shelters always participates as well. The goal is to create an engaging event with powerful stories that convey hope, joy, and community, while also offering a historical perspective and up鈥憈o鈥慸ate information on women鈥檚 issues.
