Associate Professor

Campus Councillor and Senior Lecturer in Furniture Design

In 1995, I was appointed by the Carl Malmstensskolan Foundation to develop and lead a Furniture Design programme. From 2000, I was a senior lecturer and programme coordinator 鈥 a role I held until 2018, when I became head of department at Malmstens LiU. In 2024, I stepped down from my role as head of operations and took on the role of campus councillor. I am now working on initiating new collaborations and developing those we already have.In this work, my network 鈥 both within the furniture industry and amongst other creative study programmes 鈥 is a real asset.

Current projects:

  • The 鈥榊sui Chiten鈥 exhibition, produced in collaboration with our partner university, Akita University of Art in Japan. Teams of teachers formed creative groups and worked together remotely.
  • An anniversary exhibition to mark Malmsten鈥檚 25th anniversary as part of Link枚ping University.
  • Collaboration with the local community, for example with local organisations such as Liding枚 City Council and Liding枚 Town Centre Management
  • Artist in Residence from 2025 onwards.

Background

I hold a Master鈥檚 degree in Design and Spatial Design from Konstfack. During my professional career, I have both run my own business and worked as an employee in furniture production and at architectural practices. Some of the larger projects I have been involved in include the refurbishment of the Swedish Parliament Library in Stockholm and the refitting of the Icelandic Althingi. I have also carried out smaller projects, such as interior design for restaurants and shops, and designed furniture for the Swedish and international furniture industries.

My interest lies in learning processes that combine theoretical and practical knowledge, with a focus on the connection between hand and mind. With a background in cabinet-making, interior architecture and furniture design, I draw inspiration from the endless challenges presented by wood as a material, people鈥檚 quest for a more functional and beautiful world, and the students鈥 curiosity and optimism about the future.

As well as my professional work, I am very interested in woodturning and spend a large part of my free time turning wood. With a passion for craftsmanship, I find joy in creating with my hands and exploring the possibilities of wood as a material. I find that the meditative focus of woodturning sharpens the mind and develops a sense of form.
