What do you do today, and what does your work involve?
Today, I work as an expert at the Swedish Environmental Research Institute (IVL), where I research environmental sustainability and support projects that help industries and society reduce their environmental impacts. My work combines scientific research with practical applications, focusing on life cycle assessment, environmental systems analysis, resource efficiency, and sustainable technologies. I collaborate with universities, industry partners, and public organizations to develop practical solutions to environmental challenges.Why did you choose Link枚ping University and your study programme?
I chose Link枚ping University for its strong reputation in interdisciplinary education and close industry collaboration. The professionalism and warm welcome I received when I first contacted the programme coordinator confirmed that LiU was the right choice for me. The Sustainability Engineering and Management programme offered a unique blend of engineering, environmental science, and management, aligning with my interests and career goals. Last but not least, having lived in five different cities in Sweden, I can honestly say that Link枚ping remains one of the coziest and most welcoming places I've lived.What was your experience of studying and student life in Link枚ping?
I really enjoyed my time at LiU, both academically and socially. The programme challenged us to think critically, work in teams through many course projects, and solve real sustainability problems. The international environment allowed me to learn from classmates with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. I especially appreciated that the courses addressed current global sustainability challenges and encouraged systems thinking, helping me develop a holistic perspective that has been invaluable throughout my academic and professional career.Beyond the classroom, student life in Link枚ping was welcoming and vibrant, making it easy to build friendships, many of which I still cherish years after graduating.
Is there a memory or experience from your time at LiU that has stayed with you?
One of the most memorable experiences was completing my master鈥檚 thesis in collaboration with Volvo Construction Equipment. It gave me the opportunity to apply what I had learned to a real industrial challenge while working closely with professionals in the field. That experience strengthened my interest and confidence in research and demonstrated how collaboration between academia and industry can contribute to sustainable innovation. Looking back, that experience played a major role in my decision to pursue a PhD.How has your education helped you in your career?
My education at LiU provided a strong foundation in systems thinking, sustainability assessment, and analytical problem-solving. These skills have been invaluable throughout my career, from conducting research during my PhD in Environmental Engineering at SLU, where I had the opportunity to publish several papers in leading international journals, to my current role at IVL. The ability to combine scientific knowledge with practical applications is something I developed at LiU and continue to use every day.What advice would you give to future students considering LiU?
Be curious and take advantage of every opportunity the university offers. Build strong relationships with your classmates, engage with your teachers, and seek collaborations with industry whenever possible.If you're interested in research, don't hesitate to contact teachers and ask if there are opportunities to get involved; showing initiative can open many doors.
Don鈥檛 be afraid to challenge yourself by taking on projects outside your comfort zone; they often become the experiences that shape your career.
Finally, remember that learning extends beyond the classroom. The connections you make and the experiences you gain can be just as valuable as the courses you take.
