Why did you choose Link枚ping University and your programme?
Two main reasons.First, Link枚ping University offers a genuinely balanced approach to energy and environmental engineering, combined with a strong foundation in management - compared to other top universities. As one of the top universities in the Nordics, it opens doors to work with some of the biggest names in industry - true to that expectation, within a few months of arriving I was accepted into ABB's Sustainable Talent Program, a mentorship initiative selecting 20 female engineering students from across Sweden.
Second, Sweden itself. Sweden lives what it preaches. I had the option to study elsewhere, but both my professor from my bachelor's and my mentor - then head of a municipality's Pollution Control Board in India - encouraged me to choose Sweden, given its reputation as one of the most sustainable countries in the world. I wanted exposure to sustainability that was truly practical and woven into the way society functions, not just taught in a classroom.
What was your experience of studying and student life in Link枚ping?
The faculty and student community were incredibly supportive - professors' doors were always open, and I had the opportunity to work closely with them as an Amanuensis, which considerably strengthened my profile. Swedish people are some of the kindest I've had the fortune to work with, in Sweden and beyond. As a female walking home at 3am after a long evening in the library or lab, I felt genuinely safe.My time in Sweden gave me lifelong friends, thanks to the Erasmus exchange community that brought students from across Europe, as well as Erasmus+, which gave international students like me the chance to travel and explore socio-economic topics alongside students from other EU countries - understanding perspectives and broadening my thought process on critical issues.
Is there a memory or experience from your time at LiU that has stayed with you?
Completing my thesis during COVID. I'll always be grateful for the immense technical and moral support the professors and the university provided during that time.How has your education helped you in your career?
My degree secured me a thesis project with Volvo Construction Equipment's customer centre, developing their first carbon inventory. I graduated the year COVID broke out, but that thesis contract helped me land an internship in Sweden, then a role at a global startup, which led to Ernst & Young, where I became one of the youngest Assistant Managers on the team in India. From there, I was recruited to Dubai to work for what was then Eastern Europe's largest steel company, in the Chairman's Industrial Planning Office and Clean Energy Office - helping set the transition strategy for some of the region's most carbon-intensive assets toward cleaner production. I owe that credibility directly to my degree.What do you do today, and what did your role involve?
I recently completed my tenure with Emaar Properties as Group ESG and GHG Manager in Dubai. No two days looked the same - my work involved managing GHG and ESG strategy, data and initiatives across all business units, from malls and hotels to contractors across Dubai, including iconic destinations such as Burj Khalifa.Last year I acted as technical lead for establishing Emaar's first operational emission reduction strategy, working in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, and I also supported a strategically important project: establishing the company's human rights risk assessment and strategy.
My role additionally covered the energy transition strategy needed to achieve reductions, monitoring progress against targets, and supporting the Head of ESG on budgeting, stakeholder buy-ins, Steering Committee management and project management. I represented the company in key working groups under the Green Building Council, engaging with public and private sector leaders driving change across the region.
After half a decade in corporate sustainability, I'm now taking some time off from corporate to deepen my understanding of industrial operations, AI, and data analytics.
