Chemistry (KEMI)

At the division of Chemistry, research is being performed in the areas of biochemistry, molecular biotechnology, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, inorganic chemistry and in physical chemistry, especially computational chemistry.

The research teams consist of about fifteen senior scientists and twenty PhD students, and the research projects are often carried out in cooperation within the department, with other national and international research groups, and with industrial partners.

The broad research activities in chemistry fulfill the aim of the university towards Life Science, a multidisciplinary approach that brings together researchers and projects from chemistry, biology and physics.

鈥淲e need to demystify the scientist鈥

Henrik Pedersen researches the chemistry behind our modern society. With a strong passion for science communication, he is happy to leave his lab to meet both primary school students and TV viewers and explain difficult-to-grasp processes.

New knowledge about mobile proteins linked to childhood cancer

Researchers at LiU show how two important cancer-related proteins can be prevented from collaborating with each other. The discovery shows the way towards future medications to combat e.g. neuroblastoma in children.
