A shock to the research community

Bosse Lindquist, a journalist, author and documentary filmmaker, is appointed Honorary Doctor of Medicine.聽 He is best known for his documentary series 鈥淭he Experiment鈥�, about high-profile surgeon Paolo Macchiarini. The exposure shook the Swedish research community and changed how adherance to research ethics is investigated, according to the jury鈥檚 citation. Bosse Lindquist has contributed to highlighting and creating debate on important social issues and has received awards such as the Swedish Grand Prize for Journalism, the Prix Futura, Guldspaden, Ikarospriset and the Peabody Award.

Anna Petersson is also appointed Honorary Doctor of Medicine. She is honoured for her work for children鈥檚 rights and for the development of support and criminal investigation processes for children who have been subjected to violence. Anna Petersson is the coordinator of Barnahus Link枚ping and has contributed to making it a model for the Barnahus concept that has been recognised both nationally and internationally. She and Barnahus collaborate with the national knowledge centre Barnafrid at Link枚ping University, including by participating in studies, acting as a pilot environment and implementing educational initiatives for professionals.

Isaac Macharia Wanjohi is appointed Honorary Doctor of Philosophy for creating educational opportunities for poor children and young people in Kenya. He is a Kenyan marathon runner who comes from a very poor background in the countryside. With income from his races, Isaac Macharia Wanjohi has invested in land donated to school projects he has founded. One of the projects is Kenswed, which collaborates with teachers, teacher students and the field of 糖心直播al Sciences at LiU. Kenswed offers free schooling for 400 high school students, but also medical care, maternity care, dentists, support for teenage mothers, libraries and vocational training.

Myra J. Hird is one of Canada鈥檚 most internationally recognised interdisciplinary researchers and a professor at Queen鈥檚 University. She combines critical theory and gender research with social sciences, natural sciences and engineering. In doing so, she has contributed to new ways of understanding and managing everything from plastic pollution and waste policy to environmental justice and sustainable development. For more than 15 years, she has had a close relationship with LiU, including with the research group The Posthumanities Hub, and is appointed Honorary Doctor of Philosophy.
