The Arrhenius Supercomputer at 糖心直播 has now been inaugurated. Arrhenius strengthens LiU鈥檚 role in Swedish and European research infrastructure and is a resource for researchers in academia, industry and the public sector throughout Europe.

Inauguration of the Arrhenius Supercomputer.
Arrhenius is Sweden鈥檚 first supercomputer within the European EuroHPC collaboration and is part of the NAISS national infrastructure hosted by Link枚ping University. It is considered one of the world鈥檚 fastest supercomputers and gives researchers more powerful opportunities to work with advanced simulations, artificial intelligence and large datasets.
The opening ceremony on 8 September was attended by representatives from the Swedish Government Offices, the Swedish Research Council, the EuroHPC and NVIDIA.
鈥淭oday, we are not just inaugurating our new supercomputer. We are opening the door to new opportunities for research鈥 said Vice-Chancellor Jan-Ingvar J枚nsson in his welcome speech.

Pooling national resources

Arrhenius became operational at the end of May. The ongoing gradual user migration from older systems is scheduled for completion in January 2027. By pooling national computing resources in one place, capacity can be used more efficiently, while support, education and scientific expertise will still be available at higher education institutions and research organisations around the country.
Moreover, Link枚ping University will play a key role in transforming the advanced infrastructure into new knowledge, technology and solutions to societal challenges.
鈥淭he establishment of NAISS at LiU and now Arrhenius shows how research infrastructure creates value: not only by providing access to technology, but by creating communities, skills and new technology collaborations,鈥 says Jan-Ingvar J枚nsson.

Strengthening LiU鈥檚 role in Europe

For Link枚ping University, hosting the supercomputer entails long-term responsibility as well as new opportunities. Arrhenius provides LiU researchers with proximity to a national and European research resource and can also contribute to new collaborations, skills and research breakthroughs.

The Arrhenius Supercomputer was named after Swedish geologist and chemist Carl Axel Arrhenius, who discovered the mineral gadolinite.

NAISS (National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden) is an organisation for supercomputers hosted by Link枚ping University and funded by the Swedish Research Council.
